Professor Ian Brown is a prominent artist and academic at Staffordshire University, specializing in contemporary art and cultural studies. He is a core member of the collaborative group Common Culture, which explores social identity through popular culture and the interplay between human, natural, and invented worlds. His work spans installations, video, performance, and curatorial projects, often critiquing commodification and cultural hybridity. Brown holds a BA and MA in Fine Art and has exhibited internationally, including at Manifesta 8 and the National Maritime Museum. His research includes projects funded by AHRC and Wellcome Trust, focusing on plant-human relations and environmental narratives.

Teaching & Supervision Teaches across all levels of the Fine Art BA (Hons) and supervises MA/PhD students. Has lectured at Staffordshire University, London Metropolitan University, and California College of the Arts.
Curatorial Work Curated major exhibitions including Trying to Cope with Things that Aren’t Human (2009) and Witnessing the Wilderness (2013). Collaborations include Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the English Folk Song and Dance Society.
