A former Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of the State University of New York (SUNY), he holds affiliations with the American Institute of Certified Planners and the Citizens Housing and Planning Council of New York. His expertise spans public policy, urban planning, and political systems, with a focus on immigration, housing, and political polarization.
Salins earned his PhD from Syracuse University and has authored seminal works such as Assimilation, American Style (1996) and Scarcity by Design (1992). His research critiques housing policies, examines immigrant integration, and analyzes contemporary political dynamics. He has advised municipal governments, testified before federal commissions, and contributed to media discussions on urban affairs through platforms like City Journal and The Charlie Rose Show.
His recent work addresses systemic flaws in public policy and challenges perceptions of partisan polarization. Salins' writings consistently advocate for market-driven solutions to urban challenges and emphasize the role of civic institutions in fostering social cohesion.
