Stanley Feldman is the Toll Professor of Political Science at Stony Brook University, where he has served for over 30 years. He holds a PhD from the University of Minnesota and a BA from Stony Brook University. His research focuses on political ideology, authoritarianism, and the psychological foundations of political attitudes. He previously served as associate director of the Stony Brook University Center for Survey Research (2000–2015) and co-edited Political Psychology (2005–2010).
His work examines how authoritarianism influences partisanship, voting, and political conflict, alongside the role of emotions like anger in media consumption and fake news propagation. He has also explored humanitarian concern, empathy in immigration policy, and responses to terrorism. Notable collaborations include studies on social welfare policy and the interplay of empathy with individualism.
