Amanda Lea Robinson is a Professor of Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies at Ohio State University. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Stanford University (2013) and a BA in Biology from Appalachian State University (2005). Her research examines how identity and culture—particularly nationality, ethnicity, race, and gender—shape political behavior in Africa and the African diaspora. She co-organizes the Working Group in African Political Economy (WGAPE) and co-edits African Affairs.
Her expertise spans Comparative Politics and Political Methodology. Key research themes include ethnic visibility, linked fate in electoral politics, and the intersection of gender and governance. Recent work explores US racism's impact on African immigrant assimilation and strategies to reduce partisan polarization in the U.S.
Dr. Robinson has published widely in top journals such as American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political Science, and World Development. Her 2024 book The Political Logic of Cultural Revival analyzes ethnic identity's role in African electoral politics. She frequently employs experimental methods to study governance, corruption, and resource allocation in Malawi and other African nations.
