E.J. Fagan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and is affiliated with the Policy Agendas Project as a faculty associate. His research focuses on political parties, legislative processes, think tanks, agenda setting, lobbying, and economic policy, with particular attention to how party elites shape policy outcomes and how legislatures process information.
Before academia, Fagan worked in Washington, D.C., serving as Deputy Communications Director for Global Financial Integrity (GFI) from 2011 to 2014. His book, The Thinkers: The Rise of Partisan Think Tanks and the Polarization of American Politics (Oxford UP, 2024), examines the role of partisan think tanks in U.S. political polarization. Beyond academia, he engages in baseball writing and podcasting, hosting a weekly show on the New York Yankees.
