Peeter Burk is a Professor of Chemical Physics at the University of Tartu's Institute of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science and Technology. He has held various administrative roles including Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (2016–2019) and Head of the Institute of Chemistry. His research focuses on quantum chemical modeling of acid-base equilibria, solvent effects, metal complexes, and nanotoxicology.
- Education: PhD in Chemistry (1994), University of Tartu
- Administrative Roles: Multiple deanship and leadership positions in chemistry departments
Research interests include theoretical studies of gas-phase reactions, computational chemistry, and nanoparticle toxicity. He has supervised postdoctoral researchers and authored/co-authored over 146 publications. Notable awards include the 1997 Estonian State Scientific Prize in Chemistry.
Recent work emphasizes nanomaterial toxicity modeling and supramolecular chirogenesis. His grants include projects on nanoparticle toxicity prediction and chemical process efficiency. He collaborates on EU-funded initiatives like MODERN (Safe-by-Design nanoparticles).
