Pavlos Avlamis

Pavlos Avlamis is Lecturer in Ancient Greek Language & Literature at King's College London's Department of Classics. He earned his PhD from Princeton University following degrees from the National University of Athens and University of Virginia.

Research examines:

• Representations of urban life in Imperial Greek literature
• Aesopic fable traditions
• Reception of Hellenistic poetry
• Cultural functions of postclassical literature
• Everyday life in antiquity

Current book project analyzes how Imperial Greek literature represented and ideologically used everyday urban experiences. Publications explore cultural transmission of Aesopic wisdom and paradoxical cityscapes in post-Homeric epic.

Teaches ancient Greek language and literature courses. Public engagement includes BBC Radio 4 discussions on Aesop and collaborations with the Benaki Museum in Athens.
