Professor Constanze Güthenke is a Professor of Greek Literature and E.P. Warren Praelector at the University of Oxford, affiliated with Corpus Christi College. She holds a BA from Cambridge, an MPhil from Cambridge, and a DPhil from Oxford. Her research focuses on the reception of Greek literature, history of scholarship, and ancient biography. She explores how classical knowledge migrates across contexts and examines the disciplinary frameworks of Classics.

Her research investigates the postclassical era, scholarly communities, and the evolution of classical studies. She has published extensively on modern engagements with antiquity, including studies on 18th-19th century Greece and 19th-century German philology. She is a founding member of the Postclassicisms collective and former Editor-in-Chief of the Classical Receptions Journal.
Teaching spans Greek literature (tragedy, comedy, epic), reception studies, and Modern Greek literature. She advises graduate work on topics like queer simile, Plutarch’s exemplarity, and early modern Homeric scholarship.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Postclassicisms collective, focusing on interdisciplinary approaches to Classics.
