Brooke A. Holmes is a Professor of Classics at Princeton University, affiliated with the Department of Classics. She holds interdisciplinary roles, including membership in the Department of Comparative Literature, Gender and Sexuality Studies, University Center for Human Values, History of Science, and Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies. Her research bridges ancient Greek/Roman concepts of body, nature, and ethics with modern continental philosophy and reception studies. She directs the Postclassicisms project and has led the Interdisciplinary PhD Program in the Humanities (2015–2018).
Education: B.A. in Comparative Literature (Columbia University), M.A./Ph.D. in Comparative Literature (Princeton University), and D.E.A. in Études grecques (Sorbonne, Paris-IV).
Research focuses on ancient science/medicine, Greek literature (Homer/tragedy), Lucretius, and the reception of antiquity in modern thought. Awards include Guggenheim, Mellon, and ACLS fellowships. She has published extensively in journals like Classical Antiquity and Daedalus, co-edited volumes on Aristides and ancient science, and curated exhibitions like Liquid Antiquity.
Grants and fellowships include Mellon-supported coursework in bioethics (University of Chicago/NYU) and collaborations with the Postclassicisms Collective. Current projects explore sympathy in Greco-Roman antiquity and interdisciplinary approaches to classical studies.
