She holds a MPhil from the University of Oxford and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin. Her research explores ancient Greek and Latin literature/philosophy alongside 20th-21st century experimental works (e.g., Borges, Calvino, Carson), focusing on comparative intersections between antiquity and modernity. She leads the ‘Oblique Classicisms’ project and co-edits the Classical Receptions in Twentieth-Century Writing series (Bloomsbury). Recent works include Borges’ Classics (2018) and Anne Carson and Classics (forthcoming CUP). She has held fellowships at Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford, and currently co-edits California Italian Studies.
Research interests include avant-garde literature’s engagement with classical traditions, multimedia art collaborations, and the paratextual dimensions of classical works. Her current monograph project examines Anne Carson’s interdisciplinary engagement with Greek antiquity. She has secured grants from the Leverhulme Trust and British Academy, and was recently honored as a Michael Marks Poetry Awards judge.
Teaching focuses on Greek/Latin literature and research units on topics like ancient philosophy, lyric poetry, and environmental classics. She supervises graduate students in comparative reception studies and has advised five doctoral works to date.
