Katherine Wasdin

Katherine Wasdin is an Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Maryland, part of the College of Arts & Humanities. She holds a BA from Brown University and a PhD in Classical Philology from Yale University, with prior teaching roles at Rutgers and George Washington Universities. Her research focuses on women in antiquity, particularly in Greek and Latin poetry, and the reception of classical texts in modern contexts.

Her work bridges classical scholarship with contemporary interdisciplinary studies, including a monograph Eros at Dusk: Ancient Wedding and Love Poetry (Oxford UP, 2018). Current research explores how female artists engage with Catullus’ poetry. She teaches Ancient Greek/Latin language, classical mythology, and courses on women in antiquity.

Publications span classical philology and reception studies, with notable contributions to Classical Philology, Classical Quarterly, and Classical Receptions Journal. She co-edited Reception and the Classics (Cambridge, 2012), advancing methodologies for studying the classical tradition.
