Vaios Liapis

Vaios Liapis is a Professor at the Open University of Cyprus (2016–). He has held academic positions at the University of Cyprus (2000–2003), University of Montreal (2003–2010), and École Normale Supérieure in Paris (2015). His research spans classical and postclassical Greek tragedy, gnomic literature, education in Late Antiquity and Byzantium, archaic lyric, Hellenistic poetry, and Greek textual criticism.

• Education: B.A. (Hons), University of Athens (1994); PhD, University of Glasgow (1997).

Research Interests: Focuses on Greek tragedy, its evolution in postclassical eras, and its intersection with gnomic literature. Investigates educational practices in Late Antiquity and Byzantium, alongside archaic lyric poetry and Hellenistic poetic traditions. Engages in Greek textual criticism for manuscript analysis and interpretation.

• Scientific Awards and Fellowships: Stanley J. Seeger Visiting Research Fellow (Princeton, 2001); Margo Tytus Summer Residency Fellow (Cincinnati, 2004).

Grants and Funding: Received grants from the Research Promotion Foundation (Cyprus) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), supporting his research into Greek literature and textual criticism.
