معرفی
Dr. Paula Row is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University Medical School. She specializes in biochemistry, with a focus on antibacterial activity of herbal medicines and membrane trafficking mechanisms. Her research addresses the role of gut microbiota in diseases like IBS and ulcerative colitis, alongside molecular mechanisms of protein delivery and ubiquitin signaling. Paula has held academic roles since 2007 and contributed to teaching modules on bioenergetics, clinical biochemistry, and molecular techniques.
- Education: BSc (1st Class Hons) in Biochemistry from King’s College London (1991), PhD in Chloroplast Protein Import from the University of Cambridge (1996).
- Research Experience: Postdocs at the University of Cambridge (1996–2002) and University of Liverpool (2002–2006), focusing on lysosomal trafficking and ubiquitin-mediated receptor downregulation.
Research Interests
Paula’s work bridges clinical and molecular research:
- Antibacterial properties of essential oils for IBS treatment
- Role of gut microbiota in inflammatory bowel diseases
- Membrane trafficking pathways in health and disease
- Ubiquitin signaling in receptor regulation
Key Publications
Recent studies include targeted therapies for prostate cancer and feasibility trials for fecal microbiota transplants in ulcerative colitis (2018–2023). Earlier work elucidated ubiquitin’s role in endosomal sorting and receptor degradation.
Awards
- Swansea University Teaching Contribution Award (2008)
- Frank Smart Studentship (1991)
