معرفی
Peder Lund is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Department of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University. He is also a member of the Molecular Oncology Program at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research focuses on microbiota-host interactions, gut epithelium biology, and metabolic pathways linked to inflammatory bowel diseases.
Education: PhD in Immunology from Stanford University (2016), postdoctoral training in epigenetics and mass spectrometry at the University of Pennsylvania and Washington University in St. Louis (2009–2022).
Research Interests
His lab investigates how gut microbes influence host metabolism and gene expression through small molecule metabolites. Key areas include:
- Microbiota-epithelial barrier interactions
- Histone modifications regulated by butyrate and other short-chain fatty acids
- Metabolic pathways linking diet to intestinal inflammation
- Development of mass spectrometry-based tools for high-throughput analysis.
Awards
- Research Fellows Award 2019
- Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Trainee Abstract Award 2014
- American Association of Immunologists Graduate Research Fellowship 2010
- National Science Foundation George D. Smith Stanford Graduate Fellowship 2009
Advising & Lab
Current students include Alekhya Kondragunta (Biochemistry PhD Student) and Brendan Leo (Undergraduate Researcher). The lab employs mass spectrometry and stable isotope tracing to study metabolic and epigenetic mechanisms in gut health/disease.
Lund Lab Mission
To advance understanding of gut-microbiota interactions and translate findings into therapeutics for inflammatory conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
