Hamid Band

Hamid Band, MD, PhD is the Elizabeth Bruce Professor of Cancer Research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Breast Cancer Research. He maintains courtesy appointments in the departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Genetics, Cell Biology and Anatomy; and Pathology and Microbiology.

Dr. Band's research program focuses on molecular mechanisms of cancer development, particularly investigating the CBL-family ubiquitin ligases and the EHD family of membrane-activated ATPase proteins. His laboratory employs mouse genetic models, cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology approaches to study how these protein families regulate intracellular traffic of cell surface receptors coupled to tyrosine kinase signaling. His work spans multiple cancer types, with particular emphasis on epithelial cancers (mammary, prostate, ovarian, intestinal) and hematopoietic systems.

Analysis of Dr. Band's recent publications (2017-2024) reveals sustained research productivity across several interconnected themes: receptor trafficking mechanisms (particularly EGFR and IGF-1R), ubiquitin-mediated protein regulation, breast cancer biology, and the role of EHD family proteins in cancer progression. His work demonstrates consistent focus on translating basic molecular mechanisms into potential cancer therapeutic targets, with several publications addressing therapeutic resistance mechanisms and novel treatment approaches.
