Dr. Paula Kavathas is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Immunobiology, and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. She holds dual roles as Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in both the Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Immunobiology. Her research focuses on the T-cell co-receptor CD8ab, immunotherapy, and microbiome dynamics in health and disease. She also actively contributes to diversity initiatives, including leadership in Status of Women in Medicine (SWIM) and the Women’s Faculty Forum (WFF).

Research Interests: Dr. Kavathas investigates the functional significance of CD8b protein isoforms in humans and the mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance in lung cancer. Her recent work explores longitudinal microbiome stability and individualized dynamics across body sites.
DEI Contributions: She spearheaded initiatives such as diversifying Yale’s portraits, expanding childcare resources, and reforming parental leave policies. Her leadership in SWIM and WFF has driven institutional changes to support underrepresented groups.
