معرفی
Dr. Paula Kavathas is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Immunobiology, and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale School of Medicine, serving as Vice Chair for Collaborative Excellence in both Laboratory Medicine and Immunobiology departments. Her institutional affiliations include the Yale Cancer Center's Cancer Immunology Program, Human and Translational Immunology Program, and the Yale Combined Program in Biological and Biomedical Sciences.
Her educational background:
- BA, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1972)
- PhD, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1980)
Dr. Kavathas's research spans molecular immunology and cancer therapeutics, with dual focus on T cell receptor biology (particularly CD8ab co-receptor isoforms) and mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance in lung cancer. Her work integrates basic molecular studies with clinical oncology applications, maintaining relevance from foundational 1990s research to contemporary 2024 microbiome investigations.
Her publication record demonstrates sustained scholarly impact, evolving from molecular characterization of T cell enhancers to longitudinal studies of host-microbiome interactions in disease. This trajectory reflects adaptability while maintaining core expertise in immune system function.
As a diversity leader, Dr. Kavathas has driven institutional change through the Women's Faculty Forum (Chair 2013-2017) and Status of Women in Medicine, implementing tangible improvements in faculty representation, childcare infrastructure, and parental policies while commissioning historical recognition of women scholars.
Her laboratory operations at The Anlyan Center support translational cancer research within Yale's collaborative ecosystem, with active participation in graduate training programs that develop next-generation immunologists and oncology researchers.
