Prof. Paul Leseman is a full Professor of Education at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, specializing in Development & Education of Youth in Diverse Societies. He holds a PhD in Social Sciences (cum laude) from Erasmus University Rotterdam and has held roles including Scientific Director of the Langeveld Institute and Chair of the Department of Child, Family and Education Studies. His research focuses on early childhood education, learning disabilities, bilingual development, and the efficacy of educational interventions. He has led major projects like the pre-COOL cohort study and EU initiatives ISOTIS and L2TOR, exploring robotics in education and inclusive policies. Leseman advises international bodies such as UNESCO and OECD, emphasizing equity in education systems. His work bridges cognitive science, policy, and pedagogy, addressing social inequalities through evidence-based approaches.
Education: MSc Psychology (University of Amsterdam, 1985), PhD Social Sciences (Erasmus University Rotterdam, 1990). Postdoctoral fellowships at the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences (1990–1995), and visiting scholarships at Free University of Berlin (2000–2003).
