Paul Hallam

Paul Hallam is the Course Director for the Real Estate and Property Management programmes at the School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing, Leeds Beckett University. He is a Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), qualifying in 2002, and brings nearly two decades of industry experience from a leading UK real estate consultancy, where he served as Partner for the Valuation and Advisory department in Leeds.

His research interests focus on pressing contemporary issues in the commercial property sector, particularly:

• The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on commercial property markets
• The application of artificial intelligence and automation in property valuation

These interests bridge his extensive practical background with academic inquiry, aiming to modernize real estate practices through technology and resilience planning.

Paul is actively involved in academic and professional development initiatives. He is a member of the Employability Group, contributing to student career readiness, and collaborates with the Centre for Learning and Teaching to support practitioners transitioning into higher education. He also serves on the RICS Yorkshire & Humber Regional Board, maintaining strong industry connections.

Teaching-wise, he leads key modules including Real Estate Profession and Practice (Level 4) and Professional Practice (Level 6), and contributes to courses such as Valuation 1 & 2, Built Environment Economics, and Property Management and Agency.
