Patrick Leavey

Patrick Leavey, M.D. is a Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a Pediatric Oncologist at Children’s Health, Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Plano. He holds leadership roles including Associate Vice Chair for Research Operations in the Department of Pediatrics, Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Immediate Past President of the Active Medical/Dental Staff at Children's Medical Center Dallas.

• Former President of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO)
• Long-standing member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Bone Sarcoma Steering Committee until 2023
• Co-chair for COG study AOST2031 and Principal Investigator for grants from CPRIT, Team Connor Foundation, and American Society of Hematology

Research Interests include clinical and translational trials in pediatric sarcomas (osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma), with a focus on biomarker development, machine learning applications in tumor classification, and sickle cell disease clinical trials. His work also addresses communication training for pediatric oncology fellows and treatment intensification protocols.

• Development of whole slide imaging tools for pediatric rhabdomyosarcoma
• Leadership in establishing the North Texas Sickle Cell Disease Clinical Trial Unit

Publications (2016-2022) highlight advancements in sarcoma prognosis, tumor necrosis assessment, circulating tumor DNA analysis, and metabolic profiling. Recent studies emphasize precision medicine, molecular biomarkers, and AI integration in pathology.
