Professor Patricia Carrillo serves as Professor of Strategic Management in Construction at Loughborough University's School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering. With over three decades of experience, she has held leadership roles including Associate Dean for Teaching, Programme Director, and Director of Postgraduate Studies, while leading the School's Digital Research Group to advance technology adoption in construction.
Her academic qualifications:
- BSc in Civil Engineering, University of the West Indies (1984)
- MSc and PhD in Construction Management, Loughborough University (British Council Scholarship)
Carrillo's research centers on three pillars: Construction Knowledge Management addresses capturing transient project knowledge to prevent £20 billion in annual UK industry defects; Public-Private Partnerships examines stakeholder engagement across project lifecycles; and Digital Construction pioneers BIM, digital twins, and human-robot-AI integration for sustainable infrastructure. Her work directly tackles industry inefficiencies in information communication and project delivery.
She has secured major funding including the EPSRC PLEXUS project and a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Galliford Try (2016-17) that implemented data intelligence for project planning. Carrillo actively mentors early-career researchers and champions women in engineering, inspired by her own formative mentorship experience.
Collaborating with global institutions (Florida, Colorado, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield) and industry leaders (Galliford Try, Interserve), she leverages UKCRIC infrastructure to translate research into real-world solutions for infrastructure provision and performance.
