Paolo Piantanida

Paolo Piantanida is an Associate Professor at the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG), Politecnico di Torino, and a member of the Interdepartmental Center R3C – Responsible Risk Resilience Center. He actively contributes to research and teaching in architectural engineering, sustainable construction, and building resilience.

His research interests include innovative building envelope components, passive energy in construction, facade safety, and construction techniques in historic buildings. Key areas of focus are eco-sustainable design, universal and multisensory design, active envelopes, and the experimental evaluation of building materials such as wall paintings.

His recent publications highlight trends in sustainable building systems, particularly in industrialized housing, solar-integrated facades (e.g., the 'Filigrana' system), and heritage masonry restoration. These works reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach combining architectural innovation, energy efficiency, and practical construction solutions.

He holds national patents in thermal insulation with integrated photovoltaics and roof insulation systems. He serves on the Scientific Committee of ARQUITECNO and has participated in organizing and program committees for conferences such as colloquiAte.

Piantanida has led multiple research and consultancy projects, including those funded by public institutions like the Asti Hospital Company and the San Luigi Gonzaga Hospital, focusing on building recovery, functional improvements, and water tightness defect mitigation. He is the Scientific Manager of several non-commercial agreements aimed at urban and healthcare infrastructure resilience.

He teaches courses such as 'Integral Design for Building Resilience' and 'Technical Architecture and Building Design' at both bachelor's and master's levels, and has served on doctoral colleges for the 'Technological Innovation for the Built Environment' program. He leads SintesiLab, a laboratory dedicated to sustainable innovation and heritage care.
