Pamela M. Kiser serves as the Watts-Thompson Professor in the Department of Human Service Studies at Elon University and was named a Distinguished University Professor in 2010. She has been a faculty member since 1981, holding leadership roles including department chair, faculty scholar in the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, and Kernodle Center service-Learning faculty Development Fellow. She also contributed to the Academic Council and university’s Phi Beta Kappa committee.
Professor Kiser earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude and as a Phi Beta Kappa member from Wake Forest University, followed by a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with postgraduate coursework at UNC-Greensboro.
Her scholarly focus centers on service-learning and social entrepreneurship, where she pioneered Elon’s service-learning framework in the early 1990s. She developed institutional definitions, created faculty handbooks, secured funding for course development, and established the social entrepreneurship scholars program, significantly advancing community-academic integration.
Her exceptional contributions have been recognized through:
