Dr. Padraig Murphy is an Associate Professor in Communications at Dublin City University (DCU), affiliated with the School of Communications. He chairs the MSc in Science and Health Communication program and leads the Celsius research cluster, which focuses on science communication and public engagement with emerging technologies. His work emphasizes deliberative dialogue models for biotechnology, nanotechnology, and sustainable technologies.
Education: He holds a PhD in Communication Studies (DCU), an MSc in Science Communication (DCU), and a BSc in Environmental Pollution and Biological Sciences (University of South Wales).
Research Interests: Science communication, public participation in science, media representations of technology, Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), and interdisciplinary links between physical sciences/humanities. His recent projects include managing the Irish GM Potato Community of Inquiry (EPA-funded citizens' jury) and co-editing Little Country, Big Talk: Science Communication in Ireland.
Engagement & Grants: Involved in EU projects like NUCLEUS (Horizon 2020) and PERARES. Served on OECD working groups for nanotechnology and DCU's Societal Impact Platform. Conducted science communication training for institutions like the Irish Cancer Society and UCD.
Labs/Teams: Leads Celsius research cluster and contributed to the #gmpotato deliberative process. Active in DCU's Engagement Strategic Plan and Sustainable DCU initiatives.
