Obinna Alo is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management (HRM) at the University of Sunderland's Sunderland Business School since 2023, serving as Deputy Programme Leader for the MSc HRM. He leads the 'People, Management, and Responsible Organisational Behaviour' research cluster and collaborates internationally with researchers from institutions in France, Australia, China, and beyond. Previously, he held roles as Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University, part-time lecturer at Teesside University, and academic tutor at the University of Sunderland. He earned a PhD in Human Resource Development from the University of Sunderland, alongside degrees from Nigerian institutions, including an MSc in HRM from Teesside University. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), he also serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Africa Journal of Management and advises the EXIM Bank Agricultural University in Bangladesh.
His teaching focuses on HRM, Organisational Behaviour, and Cross-Cultural Management, with modules including 'Managing Self and Others' and 'International HRM'. Research interests span HRM, leadership development, and international business, with a focus on African contexts. He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and reviews for top management publications, emphasizing sustainable entrepreneurship and leadership in SMEs.
Prior to academia, Obinna worked in Nigeria's public sector and media, including as a guest writer for the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Service. His career combines academic rigor with practical industry experience, reflecting a commitment to bridging theory and practice in HRM and organisational studies.
