Her work bridges architecture, art, and feminist theory through essays, installations, and films that challenge conventional architectural narratives. Wendl's research focuses on nuclear coloniality, feminist archival practices, and the historiography of built environments, supported by grants from the Graham Foundation and National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Recent projects include her book Almost Nothing: Reclaiming Edith Farnsworth (2025, shortlisted for the Graywolf Prize) and exhibitions like Glass Docs at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. From 2021–24, she served as Executive Editor of the Journal of Architectural Education, shaping pedagogical discourse in the field.
Her awards include recognition for Ave Maria (Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize finalist) and the Oregon Arts Council Grant for Glass Docs. Wendl's teaching emphasizes interdisciplinary exploration, with studios addressing nuclear colonialism and upper-level theory courses.
