Dr. Noa Lipstein is the Head of the Lipstein Group at the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Pharmacology (FMP) in Berlin, leading a junior research group focused on Synapse Biology since 2020. She holds a PhD from Tel Aviv University and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine in Göttingen, Germany. Her work integrates mouse genetics, electrophysiology, and -omics techniques to study synaptic function in health and disease. Key research areas include synaptic diversity, plasticity, and dysfunction, with a focus on identifying molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders like ALS and FTD. The group has received funding from initiatives such as NeuroCure and Target ALS Foundation.
- Education: BSc from Tel Aviv University, PhD combining work at Dr. Uri Ashery’s lab and Prof. Nils Brose’s lab (Max Planck Institute).
Research interests emphasize how synaptic molecular composition determines functional diversity and disease mechanisms. Recent publications explore CaM-Munc13 interactions and synaptic vesicle dynamics. The group collaborates with institutions like the Max Planck Institute and University of Freiburg, mentoring PhD students in molecular neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease research.
