Dr. Nina Danino is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she contributes to BA Fine Art and PhD supervision in moving image, artists’ film, and women’s cinema. Her academic journey includes teaching at Camberwell School of Art (1993–2000), the Architectural Association School of Architecture (1996–1999), and Sheffield Hallam University (1990–1993). She also served as an external examiner for the International Film School Wales (2002–2005).
- BA (Hons) Fine Art, St. Martin's School of Art (1977)
- MA in Environmental Media, Royal College of Art (1981)
Her research explores experimental film, the feminine, and the subjective voice, blending psychoanalysis, art, and her cultural and religious background. Recent projects focus on monastic communities, particularly the unseen lives of enclosed women, as seen in Jennifer (2015) and Sorelle Povere di Santa Chiara (2015–2018). She investigates film as a medium for transporting experiences and the intersection of art with spirituality, memory, and geography, especially in Mediterranean and micro-cultural contexts.
Her work has been recognized with awards from the Arts Council, National Lottery, Channel 4, and the British Film Institute. She has presented films at major festivals and institutions, including the Tate Modern, Close Up Cinema, and Pacific Film Archives, with a 2016 retrospective at Close Up Film Centre.
