Nikolaj Klöcker

Prof. Dr. Nikolaj Klöcker is a leading neuroscientist and Professor at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. He serves as the Director of the Institute of Neuro- and Sensory Physiology, where his research focuses on the molecular and functional characterization of ion channels in the central nervous system.

His research spans ion channel biology, synaptic plasticity, proteomics, and CNS disease mechanisms. He has made significant contributions to understanding how auxiliary subunits modulate AMPA and HCN channels, and how these interactions are disrupted in neurological disorders such as hepatic encephalopathy and epilepsy.

His recent work has explored the therapeutic potential of targeting pancreatic NMDA receptors for diabetes treatment and has used high-resolution proteomics to dissect the architecture of native AMPA receptor complexes.
