Niki Koutrou is an Associate Professor in Sustainable Sport Management (Research and Knowledge Exchange) at the University of Sunderland in London, where she joined in 2022. Her teaching focuses on Tourism and Hospitality, and she holds a PhD in Sport Policy from Loughborough University, funded by the Hellenic State Scholarships Foundation and the Alexander Onassis Public Benefit Foundation.

- Former Programme Leader for BSc Sport Management (Bournemouth) and BA/MA Sport Management (Kent)
Research Interests include events management, Olympic studies, mega-sport event volunteering, participation legacies, volunteer management, and sustainability. She supervises PhD projects in these areas and acts as a consultant for ENGSO on Erasmus+ Sport projects like PlayGreen, Be Active for Greener Sports, and CHANGE, focusing on pro-environmental attitudes in sport.

Advising and Grants: As Principal Investigator for the Olympic Studies Centre (IOC-funded), she examined the volunteer legacy of the Athens 2004 Games. Her work has been featured in The Conversation, The Geographical, and journals like Royal Geographical Society. She coordinated workshops at the European Sports Platforms (2019, 2021) and the International Olympic Academy.
