Nigel Barr

Associate Professor Nigel Barr is an academic and researcher in the School of Health at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), specializing in paramedicine, infection control, and interprofessional education. He holds a PhD from USC and additional qualifications in nursing, paramedic studies, and education. As Discipline Lead for Paramedicine and Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Paramedicine, he drives curriculum development and interprofessional education initiatives. His research focuses on improving healthcare education and practice, including studies on infection control, paramedic clinical practices, and the impact of pandemics like COVID-19 on healthcare delivery.

Dr. Barr leads a 2018 USC Commissioned Grant (A$30,000) to develop interprofessional education frameworks. He actively participates in professional organizations such as the Australasian Council of Paramedicine Deans and the Australian Vascular Access Society. His work emphasizes evidence-based practice, simulation training, and addressing gaps in clinical guidelines for paramedics.

His research spans over two decades, with key contributions in paramedic education innovation, infection control protocols, and the use of immersive media in healthcare training.
