- BA in Integrated Sciences: Mathematics, Geology, Biology from Portland State University
Dr. Rigelman's research centers on mathematics teacher preparation and professional development, examining how curriculum materials influence student and teacher learning. She investigates mathematical reasoning and problem-solving within standards implementation frameworks, with particular focus on Elementary Mathematics Specialists (EMS) roles. Her work bridges theoretical research with practical classroom applications through extensive collaboration with K-12 educators.
She has secured significant external funding as Principal Investigator for the NSF/Oregon Department of Education-funded Connect2MATH-Connect2SCIENCE grant and DEMIL Noyce Master Teacher Fellowship, plus Co-PI for the EaMML Math Science Partnership. These initiatives develop instructional leaders through inquiry-based approaches to mathematics and science education.
Dr. Rigelman co-leads AMTE's Elementary Mathematics Specialists initiatives with Dr. Maggie McGatha, producing influential standards documents, position statements, and professional books while organizing national conferences to advance EMS certification and research.
