Nicola Hague

Nicola Hague is a Lecturer in Social Sciences at York St John University within the School of Science, Technology and Health. She completed her undergraduate studies in PE and Youth Sports at York St John (graduating with first class honors), followed by an MSc by Research at the same institution, and is currently completing her PhD focusing on professional football transitions.

Her research interests center on the sociology of sport, with particular emphasis on professional football career transitions, especially the journey into retirement. She has conducted significant research projects including work with Goalball UK on the social value of disability sports and with UniConnect on youth center provision in Northern England.

Hague's publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on sports sociology, particularly examining youth footballers' transitions from school to academy environments and professional athletes' retirement pathways. Her work spans academic journals, collaborative research reports for government and sports organizations, and conference presentations.

She is an active member of the TWiST (Tackling Welfare in Sport Together) research group at York St John University and continues to develop her research profile while teaching across various formats including lectures, seminars, and practical sports sessions.
