Dr. Dale Forsdyke is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for the BSc Sport and Exercise Therapy at York St John University. With over 20 years of experience in further and higher education, he specializes in sports injury rehabilitation, psychosocial factors in sports medicine, and athlete empowerment. He holds a PhD (‘Psychosocial Factors and Return to Sport Outcomes in Football: a Mixed Methods Approach’) and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Education: Graduated with a BA (Hons) in Physical Education from York St John University (1999), followed by postgraduate qualifications including a PGCE (Huddersfield University), MSc in Sports and Exercise Sciences (Leeds Beckett), MSc in Sports Therapy (Teesside University), and a PhD.
Research Interests: Focuses on psychological readiness for return to sport, athlete empowerment during rehabilitation, and psychosocial factors influencing injury risk and recovery. His work bridges clinical practice and academic research, emphasizing real-world applications in sports medicine.
Professional Activities: Member of the Society of Sports Therapists (MSST), medical lead roles in women’s football (FA Talent Pathway), and collaborator with organizations like Volleyball England and GB Goalball. Engages in external academic activities such as conference keynotes and university external examinations.
Teaching: Contributes to modules in research methods, sport therapy clinics, and supervises postgraduate research students. Previously involved in vocational training (e.g., FA sports trauma qualifications).
