Dr. Mark Mierzwinski is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology of Sport at York St John University, with a first-class degree in Sport Studies and a MSc in the Sociology of Sport from Loughborough University. He completed a part-time PhD and holds a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy. He has served as Learning & Teaching Lead in multiple schools, co-founded the TWiST research group, and currently leads three MSc programs: Physical Education & Sports Coaching, Sport & Exercise Therapy, and Sport & Exercise Science.

Research Interests: Focuses on social justice in sport, education, and healthcare, particularly athlete welfare, banter/bullying dynamics, and anti-racist pedagogy. Uses figurational sociology and qualitative methods. Funded projects include 'rurality as health inequality' and 'improving racial literacy in sport students'.
Awards: Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2022).
Teaching: Leads modules on duty of care, advanced research methods, and placement in sport. Teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs in sport science and coaching.
External Roles: External examiner at Northumbria University (2019–2023). Chair of a community charity, football & cricket coach, and member of PFA, FA, and ECB.
