Dr. Nicola Buckland is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the School of Psychology, University of Sheffield. She serves as Departmental Postgraduate Tutor and is affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Centre of the Social Sciences (ICOSS). Her research focuses on the psychology of eating behavior, weight management, sustainable behaviors, and individual variability in health and environmental engagement.
- PhD in Psychology from University of Leeds (2013)
- BSc in Psychology with American Studies from University of Sussex
- Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching for Learning in Higher Education from University of Sheffield
Her research examines how psychological traits influence dietary choices, weight stigma, and sustainable practices like reducing meat consumption and compostable packaging disposal. She leads a UKRI-funded industry-academic consortium on compostable packaging and investigates appetite control through clinical trials. Her publications address topics such as the satiety map of common foods, behavioral responses to diet-congruent cues, and psychometric validation of self-objectification scales.

Dr. Buckland supervises PhD students including Ankita Sehrawat (weight stigma), Luthfi Dahriyanto (pro-environmental behavior), and Bixuan Yan (meal timing). She has secured major grants from UKRI Innovate UK and Cancer Research UK for behavioral interventions. Her teaching includes Social Psychology, Health Psychology, and Psychology of Eating Behavior modules.
