Nicola Baldwin is a dramatist and director affiliated with University College London (UCL), where she served as a UCL Creative Fellow during the 2019-20 academic year. Her work spans theatre, film, radio, and television, focusing on urban themes and interdisciplinary collaborations. She studied English at UCL and has held roles such as Writers’ Tutor at the Royal Court and Associate Lecturer at Drama Centre.
Research Interests: Baldwin combines theatre with urban studies, exploring socio-material aspects of cities through performativity. Her Creative Fellowship project centered on Wasteland and urban waste, collaborating with UCL’s MSc Urban Studies programme and Pushpa Arabindoo (Department of Geography). She emphasizes interactive dramaturgy and theatricality as tools for urban activism.
Scientific Contributions: Her play Nosocomial (2019) investigated healthcare science through fiction and won the CSO ‘Partnering Citizens’ Award. She has also been shortlisted for the Susan Smith Blackburn and BBC Audio awards, reflecting her impact in contemporary theatre.
