Nickie Coomer is an Assistant Professor of Education at Colorado College (2021–present), specializing in Disability Studies in Education and Urban Education Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Urban Education Studies from Indiana University (IUPUI), an M.Ed. in School Counseling from the University of Cincinnati, and a B.S. in Special Education from Miami University. Her research critiques neoliberal education systems, emphasizes relational pedagogies, and advocates for inclusive practices for students with disabilities.
Research & Leadership: Dr. Coomer has led editorial roles at journals like Multiple Voices and served on the American Educational Studies Association’s Executive Council. Her work addresses intersectionality, disability policy, and equity in special education through a critical lens. She has secured grants totaling over $50,000 for projects focused on inclusive education and anti-oppressive pedagogy.
Teaching: She teaches courses such as Disability & Activism in Educational Contexts and Urban Education, emphasizing critical perspectives on education equity.
