Julia Heffernan, Teaching Professor at the University of Oregon's College of Education, specializes in culturally sustaining pedagogy, gender and sexuality studies, and anti-oppressive education. As Director of the UOTeach teacher licensing program, she integrates inclusive teaching practices and curriculum development. Her work focuses on diversifying teacher workforces and addressing sexual orientation and gender identity exclusion in educational settings.

Her research emphasizes gender and sexuality in education, teacher identity development, and culturally responsive instruction.
