Nick Volz serves as the Area Coordinator of Instrumental Studies and Associate Professor of Classical and Jazz Trumpet at the College of Music and Media, Loyola University New Orleans. He teaches applied trumpet lessons, conducts the Loyola Brass Ensemble, leads Brass Chamber Ensembles, and performs with the Loyola Faculty Brass Quintet and Faculty Jazz Ensemble.
- Doctorate in Brass Pedagogy and Literature from Indiana University
- Master's in Music Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University
- Bachelor's in Music Education from Loyola University New Orleans
Dr. Volz's research and practice bridge classical trumpet pedagogy, jazz performance, and brass chamber music. His career integrates music education with global performance experience across orchestral, commercial, and jazz contexts, including collaborations with Grammy-winning artists.
As an educator, Volz actively mentors students through trumpet studios, ensemble performances, and guest conducting for honor bands. His students have achieved success in competitions like the International Trumpet Guild and National Trumpet Competition.
He performs regularly with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, and other ensembles, with credits spanning artists like Dr. John and Branford Marsalis. His work also includes radio and recording collaborations, notably on the Grammy award-winning album Live at the Orpheum NOLA.
