Ashlin Parker is a Professor of Practice in Black American Music and Jazz Trumpet Instructor at Tulane University's Newcomb Department of Music. He holds a B.A. from Shenandoah University Conservatory (2005) and an M.A. from the University of New Orleans (2009). A Grammy-winning musician, he is renowned for his work with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO), leading the Trumpet Mafia ensemble, and collaborations with legendary artists like Ellis Marsalis and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
His research and performance interests span jazz improvisation, trumpet pedagogy, and the preservation of Black American musical traditions. Parker has toured globally, including Brazil, South Africa, Europe, and Russia, and led ensembles at major festivals such as New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival.
He has received the 2009 Grammy for Book One (NOJO’s album) and the 2018 Spirit of Satchmo Award. His teaching includes jazz theory, ensemble direction, and masterclasses, emphasizing both technical skill and cultural heritage. Parker also co-founded the Trumpet Mafia, a collective promoting youth mentorship and innovative jazz fusion.
