Peter Varnado is an Instructor and Coordinator for Black American Music (BAM) and Jazz Drumming Instructor at Tulane University's Newcomb Department of Music. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans. With over 10 years of teaching experience, he specializes in applied music education, focusing on preserving and promoting New Orleans' musical heritage.

His research and performance interests span jazz, blues, R&B, gospel, and funk. He actively contributes to the New Orleans music scene, performing with renowned artists like Ellis Marsalis and Delfeayo Marsalis. Internationally, he has conducted master classes in France (2010) and South Africa (2014), and performed in Brazil.
He has taught in New Orleans public schools for nearly 4 years and coordinates applied music programs at Tulane. Notably, he has recorded 8 albums and led performances with prestigious groups like the Kinfolk Brass Band.
Despite no formal awards listed, his contributions include organizing community performances such as a special Christmas event for parents.
