Neill Thompson

Neill Thompson is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational and Organisational Psychology at Northumbria University's Business and Law School, where he also serves as Programme Leader for the MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology. He is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist (BPS), Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD). His research bridges evidence-based selection strategies, human factors training (non-technical skills) for healthcare teams, and workplace bullying interventions in the NHS, with a focus on bystander roles, discursive approaches, and naturalistic data collection. He is a Board Member of the International Association of Workplace Bullying and Harassment (IAWBH) and co-founder of the UK-based DRAWING collaboration for bullying intervention development.

His broader research interests include organizational behavior, humor's dual role in uniting/dividing teams, stress social construction, and workplace practices like job interviews. He has contributed to surgical feedback mechanisms, collaborative leadership frameworks, and LGBTQ+ inclusion studies. Recent publications emphasize healthcare team dynamics, intervention evaluation, and qualitative methodologies. Awards include Chartered Psychologist status (2010) and HEA Senior Fellowship (2017). He supervises postgraduate researchers and collaborates with Vitalwork Psychology consultancy.
