Nathan Shook serves as an Adjunct Professor of Music at The College of Wooster, specializing in tuba and euphonium instruction. He currently holds principal tuba roles with the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra and Rochester Symphony Orchestra, with additional performance experience across ensembles like the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and Cleveland Opera. His awards include top honors in regional and international tuba competitions, including first place in the Midwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference and semi-finalist status in the International Tuba Euphonium Conference.
Shook is pursuing a Doctorate in Tuba Performance at the University of Michigan (UM), where he also earned a Master’s in Tuba Performance and Chamber Music. He holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. His mentors include notable tuba artists Ken Heinlein, Craig Knox, and Yasuhito Sugiyama. He has participated in master classes with esteemed figures like Gene Pokorny and Warren Deck.
His performance history spans orchestral and chamber music contexts, including collaborations with the Erie Philharmonic Brass Quintet and the A2ba Quartet. His teaching and performance expertise focus on brass pedagogy and orchestral/ensemble collaboration.
