David Saltzman is an Associate Teaching Professor of Tuba/Euphonium at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), part of the College of Musical Arts. He has held principal tuba roles with major orchestras including the Toledo Symphony, Glimmerglass Opera Festival, Cleveland Orchestra, and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Currently based in Sylvania, Ohio, he also serves as a Buffet-Crampon Artist and active chamber musician.
Education and Mentorship: Studied under Harvey Phillips, Daniel Perantoni, Fritz Kaenzig, Toby Hanks, and David Fedderly. Taught previously at the University of Hawaii, where he founded their Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble.
Performance Highlights: Premiered Samuel Adler’s Concerto for Tuba (2018), performed John Williams’ Tuba Concerto (2010), and Arild Plau’s Concerto for Tuba and Strings (2014). Guest artist at Melbourne Conservatory of Music (2018) and frequent masterclass presenter globally.
Awards: 1996 Colonial Tuba Euphonium Quartet Competition winner. Extensive orchestral touring experience including China with Melbourne Symphony (2018).
Labs/Teams: Member of Toledo Symphony Brass Quintet and Honolulu Brass Quintet. Maintains active solo performance career with works by Bozza, Williams, and Plau.
