Nathan Huff is an Associate Professor of Art at Westmont College, specializing in Drawing, Painting, and Installation. He holds an M.F.A. in Drawing and Painting from California State University Long Beach and additional training at Watts Atelier School of Art. His practice explores themes of human connection, environmental symbiosis, and domestic spaces through mixed media installations, gouache works, and sculptural interventions. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at Sullivan Goss Gallery (Santa Barbara), UCR Culver Museum, and international venues in Tunisia. His works are featured in major collections including the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and Hilbert Museum of California Art.
Research interests focus on narrative construction through visual mediums, employing symbols like boats, ladders, and natural elements to explore perceptual gaps between reality and representation. Key projects include Forest for the Trees (2023), examining ecological interdependence, and The Ways Between Us (2021), addressing interpersonal communication barriers. He regularly engages in site-specific installations that reinterpret domestic and natural environments.
Professional activities include curating exhibitions at institutions like the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara and New Media Gallery. His artistic philosophy emphasizes interpretive play and experimentation, merging traditional techniques with contemporary conceptual frameworks. Teaching focuses on fostering creativity through material exploration and narrative-driven art practices.
