Associate Professor Nathan Cooper is affiliated with the University of Waikato's Te Piringa Faculty of Law, where he holds positions as Associate Professor and Convenor of International Engagement. He also serves as an Extraordinary Professor at the North-West University (South Africa), a Visiting Fellow at the University of Lincoln (UK), and an External Examiner at the University of Mauritius.

Recent publications address AI regulation in New Zealand, climate funding obligations, ecocide criminalization, and smart water technologies. He contributes to legal education through courses on Climate Change Law, Jurisprudence, and Legal Method. Current doctoral students include Qaraman Hasan and Jennifer Holman.
