Natalie Cujes

Dr. Natalie Cujes is a Senior Lecturer at UNSW Canberra (Australian Defence Force Academy) within the School of Business. She is also an Emeritus Fellow of the UNSW Scientia Education Academy and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK (Advance HE). In addition to her academic position, she holds an appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at the University of Canberra and actively practices law.

Dr. Cujes lectures in Business Law, Contract Law (Commercial Acumen), and Legal Risk Management at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Prior to joining UNSW Canberra full-time, she served for nearly a decade as a Registrar of the Federal Court of Australia and the Federal Magistrates Court of Australia. She has extensive professional experience, including serving as Secretary of the former Professional Conduct Board of the ACT Law Society and as an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Federal Litigation and Dispute Resolution Section of the Law Council of Australia.

Her research focuses on the business of federal courts and efficient resolution of civil disputes. Dr. Cujes specializes in Federal Court and Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia civil practice and procedure. Her work examines how to promote cost-effective, expedient, and efficient dispute resolution within the federal court system. She has published extensively on federal court rules and procedures, with particular attention to case management and the overarching purpose of civil litigation.

Dr. Cujes' publications demonstrate consistent expertise in federal court procedures, civil litigation management, and access to justice issues. Her work spans over a decade with regular updates to legal practice guides and scholarly analysis of court procedures. The publications show a strong focus on practical application of legal rules while maintaining scholarly rigor in examining procedural justice and efficiency in the court system.

Dr. Cujes is actively involved in legal practice alongside her academic work. She serves on several important committees including the Law Council's Federal Court of Australia Liaison Committee, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Liaison Committee, and the Australian Consumer Law Committee. Her extensive experience as a Registrar of federal courts provides valuable practical insights that inform her teaching and research, creating a unique bridge between academic theory and judicial practice.
