Myriam Paris

Myriam Paris is a Research Fellow at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a member of the CURAPP-ESS (UMR 7319) at Jules Verne University of Picardy as well as an Associate Researcher at LEGS (UMR 8238). Her scholarly work bridges historical sociology, political sociology, and feminist & post-colonial studies, with a particular focus on the French overseas departments and Global South contexts.

Research Interests

• Historical sociology of the overseas state and colonial governance
• Sociology of public action, especially reproductive health policies
• Sociology of feminist and anticolonial mobilisations
• Intersectional analysis of gender, race and class in post-colonial settings
• Contemporary trajectories of eugenics and global population governance

Her current major project, funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) under the title EUGENE – Gouverner l’humain, contrôler la reproduction (2022-2025), investigates the post-1960 reconfigurations of eugenic ideas through the transnational circulation of the injectable contraceptive Depo-Provera and its embedding in philanthropic enterprises. A second ANR project, ETOM – Hauts fonctionnaires des Outre-mer (2021-2024), examines colonial administrative legacies and career trajectories in post-colonial France.
