Dr. Murphy McCaleb is an Associate Professor of Music and Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Music program at York St John University's School of the Arts. He teaches modules on ensemble performance, music theory, and professional practice, and advises postgraduate research students. His research focuses on ensemble collaboration, power dynamics in music education, and the intersection of genre and performance practices.
He holds a PhD from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and advanced degrees from the University of Michigan and University of Alaska Fairbanks. Notable publications include Embodied Knowledge in Ensemble Performance (2014) and contributions to scholarly volumes on chamber music and pedagogy.
Murphy is an active performer, leading jazz, classical, and experimental bands.
